Today, May 16 is the 5th annual International Sauvignon Blanc Day. Like most social holidays, it started as an online initiative. This one launched by St. Supery Winery as a "global social media wine tasting". It sounds like a great excuse to drink one of my favorite varietals!
Sauvignon Blanc is a green-skinned grape, grown in many parts of the world including France, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, and the US. The flavor range is as diverse as the climates in which it is grown. The primary flavors are green apple, lime, passion fruit and white peach, but you can also find herbaceous and mineral notes as well.
It is a crisp wine, with medium acidity. While refreshing all on its own, especially on a warm afternoon like today, it pairs well with softer cheese (like goat), veggies and greens, as well as fish, chicken and the other white meat - pork.
Here are some of our favorite sauvignon blanc wines, what are some of yours?
